British–Pakistani Legal Experts Unite in Support of Pakistan on the Indus Water Treaty.

Invited by the Pakistan High Commission UK, I had the honor of presenting a brief legal analysis and Pakistan’s position regarding the Indus Water Treaty (IWT).

In a strong show of solidarity with Pakistan, British–Pakistani lawyers and legal experts gathered at the Pakistan High Commission, London, in a meeting convened by High Commissioner Dr. Mohammad Faisal to discuss legal pathways on critical national issues — foremost among them, the Indus Waters Treaty.

The legal community collectively condemned India’s call for withdrawal from the IWT, emphasizing the importance of mobilizing international legal opinion and countering misinformation campaigns, particularly in the wake of the Pahalgam attack. The participants agreed that a united legal platform is essential to advance Pakistan’s stance in global legal and policy forums.

Climate experts further highlighted that disrupting the IWT could severely affect already fragile ecosystems, with the Indus Basin facing critical climate-induced water stress. They warned that abandoning cooperation would only deepen water insecurity across South Asia.

Pakistan maintains a strong legal and moral position under international law, and the UK-based legal fraternity reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring Pakistan’s narrative is represented and respected on the global stage.

As Dr. Mohammad Faisal stated, “Water is not a weapon; it is a shared resource. For Pakistan, the Indus Rivers system is not just an asset — it is a lifeline. Undermining that lifeline threatens our economy, our people, and regional peace.”

He urged India, as a responsible member of the international community, to honor its commitments and uphold the principles of the Indus Water Treaty.
